Numerous Types of Burns

There are numerous types of burns, and they come in three categories, first degree, second and third degree burns. These are also sub classed into the actual type of burn, electrical, chemical, fire, and sunburn. There are more but these are the most common. There are specific identifications for the degree of the burn, and what to look for.

The first types of burns are the first degree burns. This can be identified by redness, pain at the area, and can be very painful, if only for a short period of time. Many people recognize this as a sun burn. Depending on you skin complexion, you may burn easily or not. If you have this kind of burn, there are many ways to treat it. First, depending on the area, you need to cool the burn, and stop it from spreading. You can apply Aloe Vera, either in a gel or cream, or if you happen to have a plant growing, then you can actually snip off a stock, peel it open and put the resin directly on the burn itself.

The second types of burns are second degree burns. These are really painful, and the skin is reddened and may even have blisters that can open and secrete a clear fluid. These burns should not be taken lightly, as they have penetrated through the first layers of skin and into the Dermis. If you have burned yourself bad enough to have second degree burns, go to the doctor and have it checked out. If it is larger than three inches in diameter, is oozing puss, you should go right away. Again, to apply quick first aid, you need to take away the heat and burning. Do not use things like butter or mustard to ease the heat, put the exposed area into cool water. You don't want to wipe the area, because this can cause the blisters to break, and cause an infection. When you take your burn out of the water, gently pat it dry and apply a loose gauze bandage. You want to use gauze, to allow the burn to breathe.

Now the next types of burns are third degree burns. These are deep wounds, all the way through the skin and may even burn some muscle layers. The skin will appear charred and brown. The person with this kind of burn will either be in excruciating pain, or may not feel a thing. If they don't feel any pain, this means that the nerves are damaged. No matter what, a third degree burn victim should be taken to a hospital right away, not by you but by an ambulance. These burns are severe enough to maim someone for life, and even kill.

There are many resources online for information on types of burns, and each site may have their own opinions about treatment. In general, depending on where the burn is located, you can usually treat first degree burns on you own, and there are many homeopathic methods. For second and third degree burn, you should go to a doctor right away, even if you don't think it's that serious. Top
