Treating Minor Burns Naturally

Do you need to learn more about treating minor burns?

Burns are a topic that many people have to deal with, and before you or someone that you care about gets one, it is important to be prepared! Minor burn treatment is something that can definitely be handled at home, as long as the burn is not too large, or located on the hands, feet, face or genitals. Once you have ascertained that emergency treatment is not necessary, you will discover that you can often handle burn care with the supplies in your first aid kit or even your kitchen.

When a burn is first created, before you treat it, make sure that you take a moment to ensure that there is no further danger. Has the stove been shut off or the match put out? Especially if you are dealing with the burn of a child, you want to make sure that further wounds or further disasters are not going to happen before you treat the wound in question. Make sure that you examine the wound and judge its severity. If the wound is larger than three inches or has a charred, damaged look to it, a hospital visit might be necessary. On the other hand, treating minor burns where the only symptoms are pain and redness or swelling is something that can be quite simple.

First, run cool water over the burn. Cold water can damage the skin further, while warm and hot water will increase the swelling and trap more heat against the skin. This is something that can make a huge difference in the way that your burn heals and even to the way that it scars. While you do this, you should take your time and make sure that the burn is thoroughly cleaned. After it is clean you may want to apply some over the counter burn cream and then to dress it with clean dry gauze.

Pain might be an issue and an over the counter pain killer can be a good way to deal with that; ibuprofen and acetaminophen are two common remedies. When you are looking into maintenance treatment for your wound, first remember that you should always clean your hands thoroughly before touching the wound itself. This is an important thing to remember and you will discover that doing otherwise can lead to serious infection.

As your burn heals, you will find that treating minor burns can be done easily. For instance, rubbing vitamin E oil into the burn can help the skin heal up faster and with less scarring. Aloe vera, which is available in many products will cool down inflamed skin and will also promote healing. You will also find that simply using a cloth soaked in milk on the wound can help the skin heal as well. Do make sure that you use whole milk to take advantage of the proteins and also make sure that you rinse the area thoroughly afterwards.

Finding a good minor burn treatment is easier than you might think, so take some time and make sure that you keep a cool head about it! Top
