Third Degree Burns Recovery

First Aid Treatment

If you or someone you know has had the unfortunate experience of going through third degree burns, it's a difficult task. The problem behind it is that you become burned on all layers of your skin. Once this happens, you must go through a series of skin graphting procedures to keep the affected areas from showing the severe scarring.

Regardless of the situation, if you realize you or someone else has third degree burns then you need to call an ambulance. There isn't any kind of home remedy that is going to help burns that are that deep into the skin. In order to get the best treatment possible you're going to have to go to a hospital. In the meantime, everything you read below will help you with the first aid treatment while you're waiting.

Getting Rid of the Fire

While you cannot administer first aid treatment yourself without the possibility of being sued, there are ways to help. If there is a situation when someone is on fire, the old "stop, drop, and roll" technique is important. If a person stays vertical they are only going to increase the burning, so get them on the ground as soon as possible. If you have a blanket, large towels, or anything that can get rid of the flame then grab it.

Only a Few Moments

When a situation like this occurs it's important to stay focused. You are only going to have a few moments to do two crucial things. The first is to remove any clothing that is loose. If you find that the third degree burns have made the clothing stick, then leave it alone. It's important to get what you can off though because eventually the affected area is going to swell.

Also, if the individual is wearing any sort of jewelry (watches, necklaces, earrings, etc.), you'll want to move those as well. Just keep in mind that they may be hot so use your shirt or a cloth if this occurs. It's important to remove jewelry because when they're heated by third degree scalds, it can be painful in those areas. Any relief is crucial, even if it's not the main concern.

Your Goal

As the person trying to help, your goal is to help as much as possible without trying to solve the issue. This means that you shouldn't bring out ice or try to apply, use sunburn spray or anything else. As long as you call 911 and try to give them the least amount of pain possible, it's a great help. It's understandable if you don't believe so when you're right in the middle of it, but trying other options could result in making them worse.

The only thing you can do now is be there for them. If the person isn't in shock or you haven't seen any vomiting, you will want to let them have a little water. However, it should be very tiny sips and enough to wet their lips. Third degree burns are a difficult thing to see or experience, just be positive and be prepared for the road ahead. Top.
