Peeling Sunburn First Aid

Peeling Sunburn First Aid

Most people think that they are only in jeopardy of getting sunburned in the summer months but the truth is that you can get sunburned anytime of the year when your skin is exposed to the sun. In many cases, having a sunburn means that you will have to deal with peeling sunburn and this can not only be painful but very itchy as well. This is where the damaged and dead skin will start to peel off as the skin re-grows and heals underneath. There are measures that you can take to care for peeling sunburn and most of these treatments can be done with items found right in your own home.

One of the first ways to deal with sunburn is to not get burned obviously but that is not always possible so you need to take precautions to minimize the damage from the burn. You can take aspirin to help calm the pain from the burn and be sure to wear clothes that are not scratchy or tight. You want loose cotton clothes if possible so you will not irritate your skin or cause any blisters you may have to burst. Your skin will continue to burn for hours after you are out of the sun so you will want to cool the burn off or get the heat out of the skin so to speak. This can be done by doing oatmeal soaks or by dabbing vinegar on the burnt areas.

When the peeling starts you will notice that the skin that is peeling off will be darker then the skin that is underneath. This new skin that will show will be very sensitive at first so you need to take special care of it. Be sure to moisturize your skin and keep it clean so you can fight off infection.
One of the best treatments for sunburn peeling is aloe vera. The healing properties in this wonder plant can help to reverse the effects of the burn so that you will have less peeling sunburn. You can use the gel from the plant directly or you can buy on of the many products on the market for burns as this is readily available to everyone.

Peeling usually starts when the skin tries to cool itself down. Your body will produce water blisters so it can cool the skin. If these blisters break prematurely then the skin that was used to form the blisters will peel off as well as the dead and damages skin in the area. You can minimize the amount of peeling sunburn by letting your body absorb the water in the blisters on its own. Many people make the mistake of popping the blisters, thinking that they can help things along but what they are really doing is opening up their skin for possible infections and scarring from the sunburn. If you want to get rid of your sunburn as quickly as possible and steer clear of the peeling process then you will need to take care of your burn as discussed above. You will find that by using the guidelines above you will be back outside in no time at all. Top
