are somewhat different. For these burns, there could be blistering in addition to the redness and swelling. Remove any clothing or jewelry from the burn before the swelling starts, run the effected area under cool water, or apply a wet compress like a wet towel, for example, but don't use ice or super cold water, because this can do more damage to the burned area. DO NOT break any of the
blisters,
as the underlying skin can become infected if exposed. Cover the burn with a loose gauze bandage, and don't tape on any area of the burn. Ointments, grease, and other home remedies like this should not be used, they hold in the heat, and make the damage much worse. As soon as you can, see a doctor for

In most cases, a third degree burn will damage nerves, preventing them from feeling anything, but since all three degrees of burning may be involved, the less effected areas are going to be extremely painful. Cover the burn with a cool moist sterile bandage or clean cloth. If it is a large area, a wet sheet can be used. If the hands are burned separate the fingers with sterile non adhesive bandages, to prevent the fingers from fusing together. Above all, seek medical attention right away.
