Burn Ointment

You may need a good burn ointment to treat your burn. Whether you got burned in the kitchen or have a sunburn you will need some relief. However you should first analyze you burned area and decide if it is a first-degree (red skin) burn or a second-degree (blisters) burn. A first-degree burn can be usually treated at home with various treatments, while second-degree burns may take medical care. There are some burn ointments that you can buy but you can also mix up some at home.

Be careful when you buy an ointment for burn treatment that it has alcohol in it. This could harm the burned skin further through drying it out and causing the skin to crack. So read the label closely.

You do want an ointment or other solution that contains aloe vera gel. This has been used throughout history for burn relief. It has the ability to accelerate healing along with keeping the area hydrated and moist.

Along with the burn balm of your choice another thing that provides relief at least for sunburns is apple cider vinegar. It cools off the affected area. Just mix two parts of water with one part of vinegar. You can keep this in a spray bottle to mist the sunburn. For added cooling refrigerate the mixture. This is help the sunburn heal and in many cases the skin does not peel.

For home burn ointments you could mix up an herb mixture to get relief. Use some fresh or dried comfrey leaves and some comfrey oil. Bring the oil up to a boil over medium or low heat. Throw in the comfrey leaves and cook this mixture for about 60 seconds. Take off the heat and cover, let it rest for at least half an hour. This will allow the leaves to infuse in with the oil. To make a salve add one part beeswax to the oil. The mixture does need to be strained through a colander to get the leaves out of it.

When the mixture is clear of the leaves it will be green in color. You can store this for around 6 months in the refrigerator. Take a soft cloth or a cotton swab and apply to the burn. If you have made the salve for a burn unguent, it will be a bit thicker than if you just do the oil.

Another ointment for burn recipe similar to the mixture above involves mixing comfrey oil, marshmallow root, olive oil and wine together. This needs to cook for about 30 minutes. Let mixture cool and strain. Lightly apply this burn ointment on the affected area two times a day.

Now you know how to make your own burn ointment at home if you don't want to buy a commercial one. Take care of the burned area for several days and until you see that it is healed all the way. Remember that second-degree burns may take medical care to heal correctly. You skin is quite sensitive when damaged by burning so make sure you treat it right. Top
