Finding a Burn Cream that Works

A sunburn and a chemical/fire burn are much the same in their effects and finding a burn cream that works really depends on the degree of burn that you have suffered.

A first-degree burn reddens the skin and irritates the nerve endings. The redness and soreness usually clears up in a couple of days but you need to keep the area moist with a mild burn ointment to prevent peeling which can slow down the recovery rate and in some cases, cause scarring. Ointments containing aloe vera moisturize the skin and help relieve the pain while speeding up the healing process. It is usually not necessary to cover the treated burn unless you are going to be around dirt that could infect the burned skin.

Second-degree burns are more damaging to the skin and cause blisters. If you feel your sunburn or chemical burn is worse than something minor, immediately place the area in cool water. Do not run water over the damaged area or do not apply ice or butter as this further harms the skin. Aloe vera can be used to keep the area cool and to alleviate the pain. Seek medical attention for treatment where a physician can prescribe a burn emulsion that is much stronger than what you can buy. Vitamin E oil can further aid in replenishing the skin's nutrients while healing.

Never attempt to treat a third-degree burn. You can tell when a burn is this serious if the skin has been broken. Never apply any type of burn cream to a burn of this serious of a nature but call 911 immediately. You may cover the subject and try and soothe to keep them from going into shock but other than that, the damage is beyond anything one can do.

Hopefully, you will never have to experience the torture of a third-degree burn or even one of second-degree. Believing that our skin will protect us because we have three separate layers to warn us when danger is near does not make us immune to the sun's rays or toxic chemicals.

A cream for burn normally includes such antiseptic ingredients as dicyclomine, phenol, benzyl alcohol, mineral oil and trolamine to help your would heal without threat of infection and has oily properties to keep your skin hydrated. There are also homeopathy and organic remedies that are proven to be effective. Some of these include vitamin E, Aloe Vera, Chammolie and Arnica Montana.

The most important aspect of a burn cream is that it has antiseptic and healing properties. Even if you think you have a mild case of sunburn, it could surprise you in a couple of hours if you do not take steps to stop the burning. The soothing feel of a burn cream should not only feel good on a burn but also hydrate and heal. Always remember to treat with cool water to stop the burning immediately. Without cooling your affected area, the burning will continue even if you are out of the sun. Top
