When the skin experiences a burning kind of an effect due to the over exposure to the ultraviolet rays of the sun , the phenomenon is known as sunburn. The skin absorbs the energy of the UV rays. Generally, if the skin is exposed for a short duration, it gets tanned. However, if the exposure is longer than required then a person can develop bad sunburns. Sunburn prevention is better than cure and the same can be said for sunburn as well. Sunburns can be prevented by a variety of ways. Before you decide to have a sun bathe or go out to the beach, take a look at the local news and the weather forecast. They will generally tell you how strong the sun will be on a particular day. Hence, you need to listen to the forecast and take the appropriate precautions.

The exposure to the sun is not a one-day affair. If you are not much of a sun bathing person, it's better that you don't overdo it. Arm yourself with a sunscreen that has a high SPF. Don't sit for more than 15 minutes at a time. Depending on your skin's reaction to the sunrays, you can slowly extend your duration in the sun.

To prevent bad sun burns you can use after sun lotions and moisturizers as well. Most of these contain aloe Vera since that reduces inflammation and has a cooling effect on the body. You can even cool the moisturizer bottle in the fridge before application, so that you get a real cool effect!

Sunburn can be painful and quite harrowing. Avoiding it is the best way to deal with it. However, if you happen to get burnt by the sun, then you need to take it easy for some time. You need to give your skin time to heal and stay away from the sun.

Amongst all the bad sunburns, blistering sunburns can be quite harrowing. However, do not cover these sunburns with any kind of ointments or lotions. Let Mother Nature take care of your problem. Popping sun blisters is strictly not allowed since that wall just make it worse.

Yogurt is also an effective remedy against sunburns. All that you need to do is to apply ice-cold plain yogurt to the affected area. If the pain is really unbearable, you can consult your doctor and even take a painkiller.

Cold milk can also be applied to the sunburns with the help of a washcloth. For temporary relief, you can use cold baths and cold compresses as well.

There are many other natural ways to take care of bad sunburns. These include using apple cider vinegar or while vinegar can also help in soothing your pain and prevent peeling or blistering. IT generally helps in speeding up the healing process. You can either use a washcloth to constantly dab the area with vinegar or you can even add vinegar to your bath.
